There are a total of 205 to 207 bones in the horses body which can weigh up to half the horses total bodyweight. There is the Axial Skeleton (vertebrae, head and barrel of the horse) and the Appendicular Skeleton (hind limbs and fore limbs).
The purpose of the skeleton is to protect vital organs, support soft tissue, enable comfortable movement, store Calcium and Phosphate in marrow and aid blood cell formation.
Bone is living tissue and so will react to nutrition, damage, weather and growth.
