It surprises me how few game creators use this community forum to trumpet their new (or not so new) gems. Use this thread to boast a little, especially if you have made a great game that got little notice. Especially tell us about your games that have been around a while, but in spite of the effort you put into them, or the elegance of their design, just haven't got the play you feel they deserve. [I'll model my request with my first reply - I'm not shy.]

    Thanks, slaaty!

In fact I have made some games that I wish would get more play. Very few different players have completed The Genetic Code, which exposes the central language of all life on earth. My earliest comment and sidebar add educational background information, and my latest (top) comment has links to other great biochemistry games by others here.

PGers, especially from the United States, would probably learn something new by playing Women of the US Senate. I know I learned a lot by making it.

My Atom to Universe - Level 2, though certainly tougher than my more popular Level 1 version, definitely expands on some specifics that are only hinted at in the easier one.

My convoluted boundaries series is still under construction, but there are now three of them ready for your enjoyment.

Slaaty's Convoluted Boundaries series is excellent. I am looking forward to more being released...

I need to get my head around a new series of games so that I can start releasing something new. I still have a few ideas up my old-school game makers sleeve!

Games can be time consuming to make sometimes...

    My best games?

it's not easy, I have made so many :-)

I am very satisfied with my actor/actress- and artist/band series though:

    Music Artists & Bands
    Actors & Actresses

Of my 25 games, I really like 10 of them. My Tourism in California focuses on spots visited by at least 1.5 million people. My National Parks of the US covers all 58 parks including those in Alaska, Hawaii, and territories. My Highest Waterfall in Each US State uses a book I wrote as a source. Of my 5 quizes on mountains the Southern Sixers has my book as it's source. The highpoints of 50 US states and highpoints of 13 Canadian provinces are also favorites. I made quizes for the largest cities in 3 states (CA, TX, FL) and the largest city in each state. (I also have 7 county quizes for states, of which I like Oregon best.)

OK, y'all can brag about the games of others too, but I am curious which games of their own creators most like - and especially those that have gotten little attention.

My absolute favorite series of games here is the "Mondrian's View" series by Aquambulushirsutus. They've gotten a fair amount of play, but if everyone were like me, they would be running way ahead.

My Animal Series is one of my personal favorites because I love animals, but it hasn't gotten as much attention as other games. People on this website seem to prefer geography.

I also agree with slaaty that the "Mondrian's View" series is really excellent!

Well, since you sent me the Private Message and all, challenging me to "brag a little bit", I guess I have to respond somehow.

But instead of bragging, let me tell people where to find some least played games and games that haven't been rated. Games that haven't been played much are probably the best place to pick up ATHs. And playing (and rating) them helps qualify them so that they'll count in your leaderboard standings.

You can find these for any game maker by going to their profile, clicking on games, and then clicking on the link where it says "The games can also be viewed in the Games Section".

Once at the Games Section, view the games by either Most Played or Top rated. But ignore the first page. Instead, in the upper right, click on the last page's number. You'll go to the least played (or lowest rated) of that author's games. From there, you can work backwards.

In my case, the least played games are here:

    Least Played

    The lowest rated are here:

    Unrated games

Find anybody who's made a lot of games, and do this: you might just pick up some more ATH's and improve your standings.

And if my games get played more because of it--well, I won't object.

Good point Tickman, finding less played or unrated games is a good way to find some hidden gems. There are now so many games on this website, its sometimes hard to find specific games. I wish the categories in the games section were much more comprehensive and specific. It would allow players to find games easier.

As an example a category on the solar system (or outer space) may prevent someone from wading through the whole science section. The search field doesn't pick up everything and only searches game titles.

I also think that more game categories would be helpful but I can see one BIG problem, who is going to sort all games into the new categories?

There are a lot of games made by members that are no longer active here at PG, so you would end up with solar system games in both the new category and the old one, I guess it would be easier finding games about the solar system in the new, narrower, category but it would unfortunately be far from all of them.

You have a good point Niklas, perhaps the easiest solution would be to allow our key words for the game also be used as search criteria and not just the tag cloud on the game page.

Well, I'm hardly of the same calibre as many of the other game creators here, as I have only made 17 games so far.

My personal favourite would be my second oldest, the Tzolkin - Mayan Calendar . Although it's far from being my most popular game, I guess I'm just in a minority when it comes to the Mayan culture!

I also just made a new one with a Maya theme, Ancient Mayan deities, which I quite like myself :)

I intend to make more in the "ancient theme", which is by far my favourite subject, be it geographical, historical and linguistic. I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who loves that subject here!

Dal - I actually knew you were also a big fan of ancient history, really glad to have a fellow fanatic on the boards :)
Oh, you found my little art corner! Well, thank you so much, I'm flattered :)

As i said a milion times, it always amazes me that many of my games that i consider wonderful are not played and maybe also poorly rated, while others that i consider "just another game", become relatively (to my avarage) popular. Take the "solar spot" game (http://www.purposegames.com/game/a-spot-in-the-sun-quiz/info) : it is a simple image with a very few simple spot. I did it in less than 5 minutes and became the 22nd (out of 273 so far) most played of my games.
Then there is this : it followed a similar game that was very succesfull (http://www.purposegames.com/game/wrong-cities-in-europe-quiz/info) and pretty well praised, it took me hours to make and it got just a bunch of plays. Why ? I don't know.
I really can't choose the best among my games because i can't still find a good measure for goodness. Usually i am marginally concerned with estetical beauty and i am obsessed with originality but i know this is not usually related to success of a game (quite the opposite...).

If you want to know which games i'd like to see played more because i think they deserve it:

    - the latin series , it is nice to see and somehow usefull
    - the great texts series (should be nice to see, again, and if want to leaern some poetry...)
    - Europe in latitude and longitude: original and nice, no ?
    - the color the flag series i think it is great if you are interested in flags (and there are many interested, i know) but it is not going as i hoped
    - the mathematicians and the conductors series: ok, they are for a rather narrow public but still interesting, no ? :)

Personally, I am a fan of any type of game and it seems that all the people posting in this string are the Greats of PurposeGames. My favorite games come from you guys and I don't think PurposeGames would be the same without the lot of you.

Hum,... Two of my best ones, which are too little played are the following:

    Former and current capital cities
    http://www.purposegames.com/game/former-and-current-capital-cities/info
    &
Countries and adjacent regions with the same name
    http://www.purposegames.com/game/countries-and-adjacent-regions-with-the-same-name-quiz/info

I spent a whole day to create each of these games.

I've not created a lot of games yet, and the games I have created, aren't played many times.
I've made a 'airports of ..' series, a series about the guyana countries, a game about estonia and a game about old currencies of Europe.

Are ya interested? Please try them, and I hope you'll like my games!

My first, best, and only game yet:

    Administrative Divisions

It focuses on the different kinds of administrative divisions (provinces, states, districts, departments, regions) in different countries.

My British Comedies received good ratings, yet very few plays. I have just published a similar game, Top 10 British Sitcoms.

    Like someone said:
    Hmm...
Of my own games, I think these two are good:

One about having/not having nuclear bombs:

But to tell my favourites from other creators, that's hard! E.g.:

And many more! In Sweden we have an expression that goes: Ingen nämnd, ingen glömd.
In translation: Nobody mentioned, nobody forgotten. Maybe I shouldn't have made a list...
Well! I did it anyway. Don't get sore, if you're not on this list, I may very well like your games a lot anyway.

    Paul

Just because i am here, there is also
    http://www.purposegames.com/game/wrong-cities-in-asia-quiz/info
that is the same as the one you listed, only set in Asia. Dunno why but this lesser brother got only a handful of plays... i don't think it is so much worse than the elder.

Very nice list of games, indeed. Thanks for including one of mine.

I'm familiar with most of the authors you've listed. Anyone would do well to look up their profiles and view their games. And there are some other good games (and game-makers) you could've included.

I think RonaldDerGrosse's "Collective Noun Farm " should be there. It's just good fun:

    http://www.purposegames.com/game/1323/info

But then, what of RDG's games shouldn't be on such a list? The overall quality is so high. Fun, challenging games.

And Equestenebrarum's "Shape Game" series is nice. See the first one (of 8) here:

    http://www.purposegames.com/game/dcca3ef0/info

Again, worth looking up the profile for more.

And also Tassos, Arturo, Brainiest, and more.

Like you, PaulfunI, I have left out some good ones....
