When I was brand new here, I didn't know how nods worked, there was nothing in the FAQ, and not a whole lot that I found in the Community Forums. I have now confirmed all the following to be true:
Each member has 5 nods to give per month.
Those 5 nods appear at the beginning of the month.
Nods are "use 'em or lose 'em" - i.e. they don't accumulate - hence:
No one ever has more than 5 nods to give at any time
Nods are all anonymous
Members cannot see how many nods they have to give
Members cannot see who they have given nods to
I've already put in a request to be able to see how many nods you have left to give, and David says he will definitely be able to add remaining nods to the control panel.
Within a day or two of first giving nods out, I was surprised to discover I had no more to give for a whole month after cheerfully handing them out to creators whose games I liked. Now I do see the logic in limiting them, so that they remain somewhat meaningful. However, I'd really like to be able to see who I've given nods to already, so that I can disperse them to as many deserving PGers as possible.
It also seems reasonable that strong contributors here might be able to earn the right to give out more nods, or to have them accrue. It is probably not a good idea for nods to accrue for everyone, else very inactive PGers coming back after ten months would suddenly be able to dish out 50 nods at once.
I can imagine a lot of ways that members could earn nods to give or accrual rights, so I thought I would throw this out to the community for ideas and opinions. As for accrual, either members could earn accrual status, or if there were ways to earn nods, then those nods could accrue, while the monthly allotment nods continue to expire.
Creators could earn a nod to give for each (or each x) game of theirs which achieves qualification status (2 positive ratings, and 20 plays). Players or Creators might earn one extra monthly nod to give for each Rank level achieved above the minimum. I dismissed the idea of earning nods to give based on nods received based on the potential for abuse by collusion. What do you think?
