I think it would be a good thing if the main tournament page had a section that listed currently active group tournies; or at least if there were a prominent link to a page which had a list of group tournies (and with a link to each group).
It might be best to restrict that to public groups, so people wouldn't follow a link just to bump into a group that's going to exclude them.
But if this kind of thing were done, people who enjoy the competitions would be able to easily find a lot of 'side dishes' to go with the 'main course'.
