    Happy New Year!

The 2nd official Create-A-Game contest is under way!

The topic for this round is: POLITICS
Game deadline: Tuesday, February 3rd at 10:00 p.m. CST
Guest Judge: TBA - I'm waiting for my guest judge to accept my invitation

The topic is a little ethnocentric on my part - a lot will be happening during this month with the inauguration of a new U.S. president, congress has just re-convened and in many areas (namely my home state of Minnesota) election results are still being disputed. The winning game will be selected in early February - the month that celebrates the birthday of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln with the American holiday President's day.

As before, I encourage you to think outside the box! Your game doesn't have to have anything to do with U.S. politics. Be as creative as you can. Find a topic that interests you and that you think would be fun for others to learn about. Most importantly, have fun and make a high quality game that is informational, educational and contributes to the success that is PurposeGames.

If you need help or are looking for ideas, ask your fellow PurposeGamers. We're all here to help.

Please read the official Create-A-Game rules before entering the contest.

I look forward to the entries for this round. Thank you for playing!

Well, this has been up for 3+ days now, and so far, only one player has announced an intent to participate. Perhaps people are having trouble finding ideas to turn into games.

To help move things along, I've come up with a few ideas that anyone can use.

There are not only many possible individual games on politics, there are many types to choose from. Some have already been done, even 2 years ago. But politics change, and some of those are out of date. Besides, there are many ways to make the games different from existing games.

I will offer a few possibilities, but be forewarned: making a game based on any of these will not give you a leg-up in the competition. There’s a lot to be considered in making a game. Much depends on the details of your work. Your game will be judged on its own merit and will not benefit (or suffer) in the scorint from being a game similar to those listed.

Many possible games with world leaders. One could go either of 2 routes:

1)a map with dots on countries. The clue is the president/prime minister/ chancellor, etc. You find the right country.

2)a picture panel of the faces: given the name, you find the right face. (or to make it difficult 2 dots: one for name, one for country).

A wide variety is possible: random leaders of the world, or the leaders of a certain region/continent. That means that you could even use the PurposeGame maps of Europe, South America, Africa, etc.

And do you have to do 2008 leaders? No. You could do cold war. You could do 1850, if you can find the right maps or pictures. Governors of states? Possible. Hundreds of other possibilities.

A hybrid background? Map in the middle, leaders’ pictures around it. Country name clue means you find a face. Name clue means you find a country. Now that’s hard.

The US is going through a transition (and we’re not alone in that). Many new faces coming into government: new senators, Obama appointees. Several "New Faces" games are possible (one, "Obama's New Team") was done nearly 3 weeks ago.

Scandal games are possible. Can you name the accused? In the past few years, the US (alone) has had many corruption scandals and many sex scandals. Republicans, Democrats, senators, governors, congressmen. A picture of a pol might have 2 or even 3 dots: name, position, nature of scandal:

    So:

First dot for name (John Doke)
Second for position (Governor of West Dakota)
Third for scandal type (Sex scandal—prostitution) (or Corruption—Bribes/Kickbacks)
You might even be able to do a mugshot game.

You could do anagrams (words mixed up to form other words). Do a site search here for “anagram” and find some of my games, including one on the 2008 US election (during primary times).

Oh, while you’re there, look at the “Purpose Gamers Anagrams” game and see if you can find Famisamis…

By the way, most of those games will give you a link to a site that will make the anagrams for you…

If the clue is a world leader anagrammed, can you match the anagram to the real name? And of course the game can be global, continental or regional. It could even be historical.

A game on recent ballot initiatives by states? Possible.

    So many more possibilities…

    One suggestion.
This contest would get a lot of promotion with an ad on the "Create" page.
It's difficult to find about it if you don't visit the member's forum too often.

    Just my humble opinion.

Thanks for the entries so far, and the suggestions! We'll have to see if David can add a link to the 'Create' tab. That would really get the word out. Thank you, tickman for you suggestions!

A few final details and notes for this round:

The deadline for all entries is 8:00 p.m. CST on February 5th. The winner will be announced on February 6th. Please note that if you enter your game before the deadline, you still have until the deadline to make changes to your entry. Take advantage of players playing your game and providing feedback. It could put your game over the top and help you win!

The winning creator will have their game included in a weekly tournament. I will also award the creator one nod. In the previous round, a few PGer's donated nods to both the winner and a runner-up. This will be the case in this round as players pledge a nod. Thank you to those who do! :)

Thank you for you for playing!

I will donate a nod to this. It is a worthy cause, after all.

For those of you still mulling over whether or not to participate, go higher up (earlier) in this thread and take a look at my list of suggested topics.

    Good luck to all.

    @ Snavelaar:

Sometimes, David can fix problems like that, restoring from an earlier backup. That way, you don't lose the comments, scores and ratings.

That May not help you in this case, but if it happens again, it won't hurt to ask.

Thank you for all of the entries everybody! And thank you to those who played the games.

I apologize for the confusion with the deadline. It is entirely my fault. I thought I forgot to provide a deadline and didn't notice that I had when I reposted a new one...until now. Sorry!

Judging is nearly complete and the winner and runner-up will be announced soon.

Thank you all for participating! Stay tunes!

After much deliberation and painstaking decision making, the winner is...

PANNONICUS and his game 'The U.S. Constitution'

As winner of this round of the Create-A-Game contest, Pannonicus will received three respectful nods, one each from tickman, Dal, and I. Also, his game will be featured in the next weekly tournament.

    Tied for runner-up are:

Snavelaar for his game 'Countries and Governments'

    and

fabianruiz for his game '24 World Leaders'

As runners-up, Snavelaar and fabianruiz will each receive a respectful nod from me.

There were NINE entries for this round of the contest. Each one was well made, educational, and contributes to the success of PurposeGames. Thank you to everyone who participated - the game-makers, our guest judge, tickman, fellow PGer's who offered help and provided feedback for the games, and all those who played! It takes everybody!

The next contest will be announced after the new version of PurposeGames is released. Until then, keep creating and keep playing!

And a special congratulations to famisamis, for making the challenge. I'm hoping to see more of these.
