    Hi Everyone!

I hope you enjoy the new features of this release. I thought I'd take the opportunity to get your thoughts and ideas for some new features that I'd like to put in play here at PurposeGames during the fall/winter season.

Below you'll find a short list of the things I've planned and I'd appreciate your thoughts on it and would be very happy to hear of any ideas you may have, big or small improvements, all suggestions are welcome.

    • Play Lists - a way to group games together into playlists that can act as favorites, or study lists or as base for tournaments etc
    • Possibility to follow more things than just members e.g. follow groups, forum threads, tournaments and so on. This way you can tailor the control you want to have over certain aspects of the site
    • A PurposeGame app version of the site, making it possible to play games and challenges on a mobile device (iphone/ipad is the first that come to mind, android devices secondly)

Those are the top contenders so far. The floor is yours.

    Thanks much for your input.

    David

    Sounds good.

RE: the playlists, is it one playlist per player, or can we have many (e.g., geography, science, humor, My favorite games of RonaldDerGrosse, etc.)?

    And, can we share lists?

@tickman: you can create as many playlists as you want. public or private. possible for others to like and comment if public.

I think what I mean by "public" above is what you mean by "sharing", am I correct?

From the discussion above on sharing, and also from heateh's comments before, does anyone have an idea for what you'd like to see when it comes to possibilities of "sharing" your games and backgrounds?

I can see a point in having the possibility of using someone elses game as base for another game that I'd like to do, and this way I don't have to scout for a background nor create all shapes from start.

Is this something you would like to see here or does it fall into the category of "it sounds OK but other things are more important"?

First of all: I really like the recent update:-)
    Here's a couple of suggestions:

I'm always looking for new games to play, but when you have played a lot of games, you lose track of which games you have played and not played. I would like to see which games I have played or not on the overview pages(where you can see a lot of games).

There are now 2887 pages with games. I hope it will be possible to search for one special page.

Yes, public and shared would be the same, I think: I could create a list and give the URL to a friend, who could then play the games from it. It could show up on my profile somewhere, so anyone could see it. So, for example someone who has a large series of games (like Niklas and his 50 US states maps) could put them in a playlist. It is true that tags could do some of the same things, but anybody can co-opt your tags. So instead of there being 50 maps, there would be 50 by Niklas and any number by other people just using the same tag. Play lists could eliminate the excess.

So your description sounds like what I mean.

Sharing backgrounds would be a good thing, IMO. I'm not sure what you mean by sharing a game.

Playlists would be a really nice feature. I have created a lot of game series and to be able to group them would be great.

Sounds great, PG its just getting better and better:)
Would be really nice with a Play Lists system, because I miss the old favorites. These playlist could be by own choice private or public, ex a private study lists or as base for tournaments, and public which you can share with others.

It could be nice to be able to organize things on the pulse/happenings ex what happens in the tournaments you're a member of, about the challenges and other things

And an application im really looking forward to!

Sounds really exiting all, thank you for the updates and the site in general!:)

Just thought about something else about 'Possibility to follow more things..', and thats to be able to see games made by friends/ people you are following in one place.

    Well, A minor one:

Your quick actions allow you to create a tournament from there, taking you to all the groups in which you are allowed to do that.

But there is no equivalent on the "Create" page--and there is room for it.

I'd kinda like to see personalized profile page backgrounds. For example, instead of everyone just having black-blue, they could choose between that, red, blue, yellow, etc.

And for the app, I think it should have separate "mobile scores," instead of one scoreboard for the whole thing. For example, if you played a game on a laptop, the score would register on a "desktop scoreboard."

The new shape game feature is fantastic! I love the playlist idea & I'm looking forward to it- I currently keep a notebook with various lists & it would be great to have those lists right here at my fingertips.

I think you misunderstood me about the "sharing games" and backgrounds David :-). I don't remember what the original meaning was. Having a database of links with information where you can find backgrounds sounds interesting though. If it's something like sharing backgrounds on PG for creating games, then the best way I think is to be able to submit them voluntarily to avoid conflicts caused by stealing. If I'm correct, some creators had a few problems with this recently :-).

All hands up here for the playlist. Would be great if I could put my language games together, etc...

We need new criterion for determining what games are eligible for the player leaderboard; we don't have the 5 star system anymore.

Also, when a creator adds dots to a game, the scores should be reset automatically, so that the creator can't make a one dot game and then get a ATH and then add dots so nobody else can.

    @chafawa:

That's a good point. I think most responsible game makers do that when adding a significant number of dots. I'm not sure it would be necessary though, if you (for example) add one dot to a 29-dot game, making it a 30-dot game.

But I know you're talking about cases where 1-dot games became 3-6 dot games, which certainly seems to be unsportsmanlike. But of course, there are many other ways to accomplish the same kind of thing: making a game with the dot(s) close to the start button, and then moving the dot(s) is one way. Another is to make the 1-dot game with the dot very close to the start button and just playing the game first. That doesn't guarantee the ATH, but if you get the lowest possible time first, then nobody can take it from you if you do get it.

It might be well just to avoid playing such games, and certainly don't 'like' them. Until a game gets a certain number of plays and a minimum number of 'likes', it doesn't count in the leaderboard. If you play or 'like' those games, you are helping the makers of those games improve their positions in the leaderboards. If you boycott the games, they wind up just wasting their time.

    Anyone else misses the 'favorites'?
I really hope to get this back, -There is no place to collect games anymore, -I used to collect games that I wanted to use for future tournaments, or just wanted to play again.
And I remember talk about using the 'like' button, -but there is a lot of games i like, but not necessarily want to use later. I wonder if I should start go through all 'my-likes' and start unlike games to make the list shorter..

And when Im first in the nostalgic mood..I miss the rating system too, -even if there was many good reasons that it was not perfect.
But now its like or not like, -it doesnt say anything about the quality, and so high-quality games will compete with low quality games just with numbers of likes, and so many games will just reach 3-5 likes and then be forgotten.

    ..I also miss the wall..

I really appreciate the care and interest to make this site better, and I do think the update has many nice and cool features, so i dont mean to be against new changes. Many things improved, and I really like the shape system and much more.

But I have been around here soon 4 years and I guess I really like how things were with the wall, rating and the favorites, -maybe these things could be improved istead of taken away.

Well its my opinion after a few weeks with the new version, anyone agree/disagree?

The rating system was good for indicating games that really needed to be tossed. Not just the ones that had a few spelling errors or one thing that needed to be fixed. It was kind of like a head's up for a game that was bad. The rating system also allowed a 5 star gamed to go down in ratings by many other gamers giving a low rating (for whatever reason). Seeing a really great game go down in ratings because others didn't like it was kind of sad. I do miss the wall and the favorites.

I kinda miss the wall too. I'd like to be able to talk to people that aren't following me or that I'm not following.

    @Alcyone:

I think the playlist feature will be like having multiple lists of favorites, so that should be a more than adequate replacement.

I'm not sure I miss the old rating system, though. I think there was too much abuse with it. I recognize that the 'like' system isn't perfect, either. I'm not sure what other kind of system there could be.

I do miss the message boards, but I understand why they were problematical for David, as well as for many users. There was some genuine abuse in the system. I'm not sure how it could be saved and not have those problems.

Well, we could have a wall of game for games that are good instead of a Game of the Day.

I agree with lakris and KENOR. It would be cool if we didn't play games yet and they showed up on you statistics (or any other place).
