DESIGNATING THE HONOR OF BEING THE MEMBER OF THE MONTH...FOR U WHAT IS THE GENUINE BASIS OF BEING ONE?
IS IT THROUGH FRIENDSHIP?EXCELLENCE ON GAMES?LOVE FACTOR?OR OTHER REASONS U MAY THINK OF...

The highest amount of respectful nods in a month seems to be the best determining factor to me. Its when you get noticed by other members...

The member of the month is decided by who got the most respectful nods from other members during last month.

    That's exactly what is says.

It is true that nods determine it all.

But unless I am making the wrong interpretation a different (deeper) question is being asked here.

And that is "what reasons do you think make a member of the month legitimate?"

In other words, why would you vote for (give a respectful nod to) another member?

(alPINIA, let me know if I am misreading the intent of your quesion...)

I would like the MotM to be someone who is a fast player, someone who makes good games or someone who is nice to his fellow members and is active in the forum.

I think that one of the reasons we have seen some MotM:s most of us never have heard of is because you can give all your five nods per month to the same member. If a bunch of friends get together and nods each other or if someone creates multiple accounts anyone could be MotM for no special reason.

The drawback of limiting the number of nods you can give to one person is if that person does several things that are worth nodding and you can't reward her/him.

    What do you think?

I would agree with Niklas' criteria.

I have given nods to people who:

Have a lot of ATH's or win tourneys

Offer advice and help to me (or others)

Make constructive criticisms of games (especially mine)

Just play a lot of games (especially mine)

    Generally cheer people up

Make a lot of good games (or even just a few really good ones)

Play an active role in the society of PurposeGames, helping to improve the site.

People who win Tickman Challenges (see threads on those).

And of course, to David who created the place to begin with

Soon, I will be giving nods to some of our GameFellas Pentathlon winners...

I'm not trying to sound pitiful here or anything but, I've never been member of the month.

    lol

and I almost always have no idea who the people that get it are.

lol yeah, that's often the case. It's like little factions who vote for each other. Sometimes I wonder if they are even multiple ids. But this month it is Dal, which probably makes a lot of sense to most people.
I give out nods to people whose contribution to the site I respect; creating, playing, discussing, whatever makes them stand out (in a positive way).

Sarah: I'm with you: never been MotM, and having no idea who many of the winners are.

And yet, you have many, many nods (93), which must've accumulated over time. That may cheer you up a bit: that's consistency, not conspiracy. You're still one of the best PG's. (And you have nods from me in that total).

@Sarah: I wouldn't feel too bad about this. You're almost invariably Member of the Week, so I suspect that the Member of the Month goes - sometimes - to people who can't possibly match your speeds, but who contribute substantially in other ways. But rest assured, we respect you very much indeed!

@Tickman: I'm stunned that you've never been Member of the Month! That's a really bad omission, given how much you have done for the site.

Oh, it doesn't make me sad. I know that I've been member of the week for more than a month at a time, so that makes up for it. I was just making an observation.

tickman def. needs to be a MotM.

I kind of understand why I wouldn't get it. I see that as being based on making games that appeak to a lot of people. But the games that I make are pretty much based on my own interests.

    @ Sarah:

I wasn't complaining. Just trying to cheer you up. I guess that was not necessary. Just remember, there are 15357 members and probably less than 12 who've ever been MotM. You've got lots of company.

Most people are here for playing or making games. In your case, it looks like speed, competition, maybe learning a thing or two are also important. For me, I like to play new games, see new things. And I make games: much of my reward is a game that gets a lot of play. So people like you (who play lots of games) warm my heart.

I've also made some good friends here, and that's maybe the best part of it all. The GameFellas crew especially has been fun to work with: we're actually doing some of our work on a cooperative/social basis, and it has been fun.

Nods are great, and you have many. Star ratings on the games are nice, too. But if that's all someone is here for, they won't ultimately be happy here.

I figure that you are happy here as evidenced by the fact that you keep coming back.

I know there are people who are jealous of you, and sometimes show it in rather silly ways. It's only because you're the best at what you do, and one of only a few who do it much, much better than the other 13,300+ of us...

I think I'll give you another nod.

In the meantime, keep acting like the Roadrunner. The coyote can't catch you...
