I remember some time ago there used to be a box on the front page where latest new records were displayed. I'm not sure how long it has been gone now, but I really liked it... it was a great way of bringing back old games, even if ever so briefly, and the few times I did make the top I loved being on the front page. Does anyone know why that was discontinued? Was it a design consideration? Or perhaps it was like blood in the water attracting the sharks; a box like that simply attracts the speedsters to take away the one and only top score I currently have?!

You can find this thread easily by going back to the "Community" tab, which you can see on all PG pages. It will be in the list.
To post a new topic, look for the link (yeah, it is small font) above the list of topics. Click on it and you're in. It's pretty easy.
You'll learn to navigate the site if you spend more time here.
Re: you question (shading instead of dots), I hate to be he one who tells you, but you can't do that. David (the maker of the site) did that in his original games. But he hasn't figured out yet how to make that available to members. It would take a huge amount of programming to do that. And this is more a hobby to him than anything. He has a real life, which is not this site.
But he has done a lot for the members. The dot games didn't even exist at first. It was months into the site before anyone could make their own games.
Having PMs, viewable profiles, and many other improvements followed. The Leaderboard (tournament) has been popular. Being able to access other members'games by ratings, # of plays, etc. is very nice.
But non-dot games have not been one of the improvements: too hard to program. (Maybe someday?)
But look around the site. I think you'll find things you like, and I hope you enjoy it here.
And yep: the question about dots v. shading does get asked a lot. We'd all like it, but realize that it could take some time before we see it.
In the meantime, join in.
