A week ago, I introduced a new thing into the GeoWorld group system; a Did you Know? update section in the News category. The GeoWorld news and the Did you Know? will be posted there. Here is an example of a DID YOU KNOW?

It has been long said that Sarah Palin said that she could see Russia from Alaska. That is not true. But from Alaska, according to Google Earth, it may be possible to see the Diomede Islands in the middle of the Bering Strait. And Russia can be seen, in theory, from the Diomede Islands, part of Alaska, and thus a territory of the United States. So, yes, it is possible to see Russia from Alaska, just not from mainland Alaska.
