purposegames chat room

Post Information Posted: 2008-02-13 18:45:07 #

Hey i was thinking and i thought that maybe purpose games should have a chat room. I am not totally sure that it would be a good thing, but i feel like it would be nice to chat with other purposegamers LIVE instead of through messages and what not. And you could even make it accessible to non-members to give us members a chance to convince them to join.

There are pros and cons to chat rooms, and the cons may outweigh the pros.
con= some sickos go into chat rooms and foul it up, so you really would need to keep a close eye on it.
pro= it would really give people on purpose games to interact with eachother on a new level.

I know there are more but i just dont have the time or energy to type it all.

I want your opinion! Tell me what you think about this.

On the one hand, it sounds pretty nice. Kind of an interesting idea.

On the other, it may be just too much for one person (David) to implement. This is more or less a hobby for him, and he certainly does good work improving the site in many ways. But this kind of thing sounds pretty tricky/time-consuming. It may be beyond the resources (of time or server space) he has. Even if he would want to do this, he might not be able to. And even if he could, it would no doubt take a long time to make it happen.

If you really want to chat with a particular individual (or small group), you can add each other as friends. Then, you can exchange information out of the public eye and set it up for chats elsewhere (or for standard-type emails, for that matter). That may not be as open and free-wheeling as a dedicated chat room, but it is perhaps the best you'll be able to get (at least for a long time).

It goes (almost) without saying, that if you try to set up off-site chats, you certainly don't want to put your e-mail addresses out on someone's user page discussion board, or on the community page or in game comments -- That's just too visible. But once you are on someone's friends list, you can communicate in private message mode, and that should be OK.

(Sorry, I don't mean to be negative on what is really a nice, and interesting idea. I just don't think it's a likely possibility, that's all.)

You are probably right. I thought about the server space and everything and the way you put it (no offense, im just saying that you made some more specific points than i did) it sounds like it would be a pretty hard thing to do. it would take alot of dedication, determination, etc. Not to mention a lot of time.
