The relative success of multiple choice games

It seems like, although a nice addition to the site, the multiple question games are having a hard time to attract players. I had a look at the games page and found out that of the 500 most played games of this site, only 9 was multiple choice games, of which only 3 was player more that 1000 times.

As far as I can tell, there are several reasons for this.

One is that they don't catch the eye like some of the more colorful map/picture games.

Another is that they haven't been on site that long. There's a high (though far from perfect) correlation between the age of a game and the number of plays. Part of that is simply due to the fact that more time = more chance for play. But it also goes back to the history of the site: the original games by David originally had no competition, and the whole site was (informally) one massive tournament, with people going back and forth between games, and trying to get the lead in as many as possible. For the first few months after user-made games came in, that sort of thing remained in effect. But eventually, as there were more and more games, the new games got less time in the limelight (pushed off the main page quickly), and were also on the last page of the "Games" section.

Finally, few MC games have ever been in the tournament or "featured game of the day." Getting either of those positions greatly elevates play of any game.

Still, I find them worthwhile. I wouldn't want David to get rid of them. I don't think there's much you can do to make them more attention-grabbing.

As an older player, I really like the multiple-choice games. They place a smaller premium on good mouse control and a correspondingly greater value on knowledge.

None of the games really place much value on knowledge after you have played them enough.

@ emzie-x

If it's your game, you access it through the edit feature when you view it in your own profile.

If someone else has made a mistake, leave a message in the game comments. The better authors will make corrections, or explain why the answer is actually correct, even if it seems wrong at first glance. Most game-makers appreciate the feedback, and will thank you for it.

When you are making a multiple choice game, how do you change which answer -A,B,C,D or E - is correct. It is always on A.

It is only when you are making the game, when the game is played the different answers are positioned by random.

PURPOSEGAMES should change the system in creating games that have multiple choice to a system where a member can upload a nice background...
