I thought I’d take the opportunity to share some of the plans for the near future of PurposeGames.com

    Player Rating System
We’re still missing a rating system - basically a way to answer "how good am I at [subject]" based on my playing records - as it is right now. I’ve gotten some good suggestions on what you’d like to see in this area but more is welcome of course.
Player Ratings are missing since the last major update of PurposeGames, so I long for this to come into place again.

    Improved Scoreboard
There’s a lot of room for improvement in the personal scoreboard area. Private Games show/no show, ATH’s display, games per category, the position in relation to others, and possibility to sort freely.
I know some of you have been asking for the possibility to compare and bring up player vs. player. I’m looking into this but I cannot say whether or not this one will make it at the same time as everything else.

    A couple of Widgets
A widget is a small piece of code to place for instance on your own site, that displays stats from this site related to you. You have probably seen and/or used this from other sites you visit. It’ll be possible to display these in other places e.g. on your site, your google panel, your facebook profile and what not.

The following widgets are in the plans:
    - Game of the day (you can already see a preview/beta of this one on http://www.davidincyberspace.com at the top right of the main page)

    - "My Rating"-widget. The idea for this one is that if you’re really good at Geography or Sports or whatever and want to show it off to others, a rating system widget will show your current rating updated live and displayed where you want to see it

    - "My Game"-widget. Basically the same as the game of the day widget only this one allows you to plug your own game into it. Not to be confused with "embedding"-possibilites i.e. it's not an enabler to place the games elsewhere, but rather a link. You’ll be able to show off your own games, randomly, or a specific game of your choosing and place it on a site where you want it to be displayed.

I have no ETA for these improvements but now at least you know what’s in store for the – hopefully – near future.

I'd like to add a feature if it is possible and that is a "Go to the next question" feature. It is really a "bummer" WHEN THE FIRST ONE OFF THE GAME LIST IS A STUMPER and you know you have 3 wrong right up front. It would be nice if you could delay them and think on those at the end when they return to haunt you! In that way it would avoid a back out from the game for someone who may think it is too hard at the beginning or may help someone who is trying to get a better time, or is using the game to learn by doing.

On player ratings - Ideally I think you would want a score in each category and then a total score. The score needs to be dependent on your ranking in individual games, but also weighted for the number of people who have played that game. I also think that you need to have a special ranking for people who create games - one that takes into account how many times a game has been played and how high ratings a game have recieved. I don't know what would be possible to do on a website when it comes to computing scores/rankings but a suggestion would be that you get 1 point for every person that you are ahead of in each game. Thus if you are no 5 in a game that 20 people have played then you get 15 points, but if you are no 100 in a game that 200 have played then you get 100 points. This way it really awards people who are competetive. Perhaps there could be a extra bonus for the top 10 spots, multiplying the above score by 10 for first place, 9 for second place etc. As for game creaters the score could be calculated by multiplying the average amount games played for all this persons games multiplied by the average rating of his/her games. I think that a rating system like this would really hook players too to try and beat eachothers.

Wow i like RonaldDerGrosse and Doffa's idea. I really like the points idea, in that it would get a general idea of the work each player has done. Examples are as follows:

    Playing a game=5
    Recieving a nod=150
    Creating a game=500
Someone plays a game you created=10
Game you created gets 5 stars=100
Getting a number one score on a game=100
    Scoring the ATH=150
Getting in the top 10 in a game=50

    Anything i left out?
Also, If a player commits a minor offense points could be deducted.

    Thanks all for the suggestions.

@Doffa, I think you are right. Ratings has been tricky to implement in the past. I'll see what can be done to mimic the way you and h4j is suggesting.

Excellent suggestion on having game creation ratings as well. Today each game gets its rating through the rating system and perhaps even more so by how much it's played, but it'd be nice to have an aggregate on that one as well.

@h4j, yes the points idea is a good one. thanks for elaborating on it.

Generally about the rating/score-mechanism. I think a way to see who's just ahead of me, and how's "chasing me" is also something that would be nice to have.

Oh yeah, and I really want an easier way to browse individual players games. Like it was possible to do earlier, to sort them by category, played etc.
