I just thought it would be interesting to hear from everyone about how they found this site...word of mouth, link from another site, etc..Post it here!

As for me, last winter I was relaxing on a Sunday, watching a football game (American-style) with a friend. During the commercial breaks, we were playing on my laptop and browsing through the sites that came up on StumbleUpon...something I used to to when I was bored..or trying to avoid the things I should be doing. We 'stumbled upon' Purposegames and spent the rest of the evening playing the games..and ignoring the football game.

PG has been such an intriguing and engaging site that I haven't even thought of StumbleUpon since I signed up. Well, except for today when I was trying to remember how I found PG in the first place.

You know, I really don't remember.

I was just following some link somewhere. Mostly an accident, really. Most likely, I was following some geography or history link. Probably, it started out on Wikipedia and went a few iterations past that.

Anyway, I got here, played a few of the games, and thought that it was kind of OK. Went back to it from my browser history, and played a few more. Kind of started to like it. Went for a few more than the "basic set" of geography games. Liked that.

Started to play more from different categories. Then, to look at the forum. And then, made a few games of my own. Then played more, posted to the forum, made a few more of my own games...

I'm starting the 12-step group "PurposeGames Anonymous", in case you are interested...

I can't remember either. It was either through googling 'geography quiz' or perhaps stumbleuopen.

I had to learn all the countries of africa for my geography class at school so I did a google search on a countries of Africa game and I was on about the third or forth page when i came across david's blog and then I played the Africa game again and again and again. I later aced the test
I didn't play on the blog for another 6 months until I to learn the countries of Europe for school. I followed the link to purpose games.com and it took off from there.

I have saved in my favorites an URL - http://www.allmyfaves.com -where you can find some of the most clicked sites of internet in each category, more then 500 sites.I think PG came from a games category site.
But i just typed some members names in search option and came up the profile of the member in PurposeGames.I tryed with famisamis and Thomsiboms, doesn't works with tickman and my name.

Cool thread. This is really interesting to know. Keep it coming.

As you have told us how you found it, let me tell you how it all got started. You may have heard this already since I believe I had it posted here some time in the beginning.

Anyway, we were playing Trivial Pursuit, and we all found that we were ridiculously bad at the Geography questions. I failed even the most trivial ones. So I set out to find a game site that would help me in this but I didn't find any that was good enough, except for a few apps that was possible to download and then install. But that's a hassle and it wasn't possible to share the highscores etc.

So I did what any computer geek would do in the same situation; I created my own game. The countries of Africa. I put it up on my blog and told a friend of mine to have a go at it and dared him to beat my time. He did. A couple weeks went by and no one other than me and a couple of more friends were playing the Africa game. I then created Europe and the states of the US and all of a sudden it got stumbled upon and went sort of viral from there. I remember vividly that there were so many players one day that my blog had to be shut down since it wasn't really made for that kind of traffic. :)

Anyway, on October 27 2006 I started PurposeGames.com. Come to think of it, it's very near one year ago now. The first version had 13 games, and whenever there was a new game to release I had to do manual work to put it up there and above all, I had to create them by myself which was getting out of hand since the requests were quite a few. So on February 28-isch this year, I re-launched PurposeGames.com with the capability of creating your own game. From there it took off and it’s now going on its third version really.

    That’s the story so far.

I was looking originally at Flicker and someone had a picture from Stumble Upon which was a list of websites that this particular person liked. I thought that sounded interesting and was surprised that there were so many people on Stumble Upon that liked Purpose Games so I checked Purpose Games out and wound up living here since that time. I feel compelled every day to see how many new games tickman, niklas and equestenebarum have posted, whether any American Tourister or Bobolo luggage has beaten Samsonite luggage at first place and attempting to get on the first page of tournament play with a three year old mouse! I am surprised that some teacher's lesson plan or teacher's aid site has not picked up on PurposeGames to send it into orbit.

I don't remember why, but one day I realized that I was pretty lost in the world I live in. I mean, I knew what continent each country belongs to, but that was it.

So..., I started looking for maps to study, but it was not a lot of fun to stare at an image and memorize everything (or at least try). Later I thought of searching for games in the web that could help me to achieve my purpose.

After the ninth or tenth site with downloadable games, I found David's blog and I knew that I didn't need to search anymore.

I come often since. And even when I have not created a game for a while and I have not played a lot of games lately(I played the first tournament, though), I still stop by very often just to read this sort of threads.

    Great community.

For me it started with a website (forum?) on George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire", an uncompleted fantasy series that I can really recommend. There were links to two games on Westeros by LordsKisser that I really liked:

    http://www.purposegames.com/game/91/info
    http://www.purposegames.com/game/103/info

Well, I soon found out there was more to purposegames.com :)

Just like RonaldDerGrosse I also came to this site from "Stumble Upon." I have never been that good with memorizing and this site gives me the chance to brush up on my skills.

I am interested in Ancient Mediterranean history, and since there wasn’t enough of that here I thought I would create some of my own quizzes. Since then I have been making a variety of different types of games.

(BTW fabianruiz I saw your “ultimate nightmare game” and had a laugh. How did you make that?)

Hehehe... I'm glad you liked it, Dal. And I'm glad you understood it was made just to make everybody laugh. It's been the most hated game I've made, but once every now and then, someone realizes its real purpose.

It's just a background created with lots of dots and then I inserted five real dots over it.

I found this website about 2 months ago, when I found a mini-article on chessbase.com (I am also big chess fan) that was pointing to the game "Best Chess Players" (http://www.purposegames.com/game/2387/info) in a sort of a challenge to all chess fans to get an idea of how well and how fast they could identify their chess idols. And around that time I'm pretty sure that many others came here by the same reason... After that, I was captivated by purposegames and its tons of games about almost any subject, and here I am to stay!

I was looking up countries and continents in French ( I was studying it then)and I came across "Countries of Europe in French". I memorized the site name and came back the next day. I then started coming every day and ( almost) have since then. Then one day I decided to join and I have liked it ever since.

I was searching for a game to help me remember the African capitals online. I saw a description of what looked like a good game. I played it and then looked at other games. It really helped me and there are fun games too.
