PurposeGames.com was updated on September 29, 2007. The following major changes was added:
* New game type called Multiple Choice Game added. It's a framework for creating games where you post a question with two or more alternatives where one is correct. You find it in the create section.
* New feature called Tournaments. A tournament runs for a specified amount of time and consist of two or more games. The winner of each tournament becomes the reigning site champion and player of the week. You find it under the 'Leaderboard'-section.
* Possibility to create private games. This is maybe the most 'difficult' aspect of the update since it is really not that big difference between a public game and a private game. A public game is published to the frontpage of the site and is available when browsing the games section of the site, and also shows up in search. A private game does not.
However - and this is a BIG however - a private game can still be played by anyone that has the URL for it. Anyone who gets the URL from you or stumbles across the game from Google or whatever.
The idea with private games is to not publish relatively personal games or 'internal jokes'-games to the general public. Also, games for your own studies/homework is typically something that's better to keep as private games.
Important! The same rules apply for private games as for any other games. You can always revisit the terms and conditions page at the bottom of this and every page.
* Favorites. It's now possible to tag a game as a favorite game. You find the favorites in the 'Games'-section of the site.
* Better navigation of games section. An option to see ALL games no matter the category - really an extension to the front page latest games list. Also, a couple of new ways of tracking games such as 'most favorited', to make it easier to find the most interesting games.
* Friends. You can add any member as a friend and thereby enable private messaging between you and that member. It's also a good way to keep track of the games coming from that member.
* Nods. You can give someone you respect or like a friendly nod to show that you dig them or the games they produce. The one with most nods every month becomes the most valued member for that month. It's an honorary title ;)
* Avatar support for your personal page and in the forums.
* Possibility to report a bad game. You can easily report a game that you think should not be on the site for one reason or another.
* Possibility to share games from the game and from your control panel.
* Random game jump from within games. If you want to see another game and just want to be surprised this button available in the games takes you to a completely different game, chosen at random.
Well, that's about it. Feel free to comment on the changes and also, if you find bugs or have feedback of a more general nature, there's a new forum called 'Requests & Feedback' just waiting for your posts.
Have fun!
P.S. While the new theme and look of the site can be attributed to me, the theme of the forum is a mimic of the new theme from PhpBB.
