Yep, wikipedia/wikimedia is a really good source. I get most of my stuff there.

If you look at many of my games, you see that I usually cite the image's author in the description, and give the URL for the picture in the game comments. Some other game makers do this, too.

So (for example), if you see a map you like in one of my games, you can find it by using the URL in my game comments. It may not be the exact same map, because (like Niklas), I often modify the original. In my case, I use either PhotoShop Elements or PowerPoint.

And for more sources, BE SURE to look at the game by Tassos:

http://www.purposegames.com/game/all-my-faves-quiz/info

And read the game comments there.

And some people do take their own pictures. I think Niklas had a recent game of sites he visited in the US as part of his work. Very scenic work, I must add.

Good Luck, and Good Games.

I get a lot of backgrounds from Wikipedia, or Wikimedia Commons to be more precise:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
They usually aren't copyrighted and when they are it clearly says so.
Sometimes I make some further editing, removing text, arrows etc.

I'm just wondering where people get there pictures from or they take them yourself.
I get mine from websites.
