Sounds like a great way to look up games! It only seems to find one or two games at a time, rather then a group of games that match the search criteria.

Well, I've just spent a couple of hours going over my earliest 3 pages of games (non "game-view"format). The last page has only 9 games, so I've just redone the tags on 49 games.

That makes it 548-49=499

So now, it is down to 500- games...

This could take some time

Some of the PG members (especially Dal and I) have long advocated that we be able to do site searches on the tags associated with the games.

You can use the most common tags which are listed on the left side of the games page, but even the least common tags there (indicated by smaller text) seem to have more than 3 pages of games. Tags less common than that do not appear. So if you wanted to find a game on invertebrates, it's not there. And since a site search won't turn up a game unless the word is in the title, you are out of luck.

Unless you use the following workaround, which is apparently not common knowledge.

What you need to do is a Google search. Or really, two separate searches.

Search for (in this case):

purposegames tag invertebrate

AND

purposegames tag invertebrates

(You have to search the plural separately: you get two different sets of results)

The result is a short list of sites, and usually the first one (or one indented under it) is a link to an actual PurposeGames page with the games shown by picture and name, in the familiar PG format.

While this is not as good a solution as tags being in the PG site search, it is good enough to use until some future update brings that to us.

What this means is:

1)[Good News]: you can search via Google for whatever type of game you like and find it here at PG, provided it exists and is appropriately marked.

2)[Bad News]: I should really go check the tags on all my games to make sure they're accurate and complete...ouch!

Bear in mind it is important to put the term purposegames into the search list or you'll get thousands of results. And put the term tag in to help pare away forum comments and so on.

Certainly be sure to realize that plurals and other word variants, combos and derivatives must be searched separately (i.e., Asia & Asian)

Hi Xmael,

Welcome to the site. When you first start making games your new games appear on the "recently created games" page, but as you make more games, get better at it and attract positive attention then eventually your games will start appearing on the main page where plenty of people will see them. In the meantime I recommend that you look around the site for inspiration and enjoy the process.

Best wishes,

First of all, welcome to PurposeGames.

Huggie is right in that you can't put your games into a tourney by yourself. Only the site's owner (David) can do that. He's pretty selective though, and can afford to be with over 8500 games to choose from.

We don't expect you to know all this right off. Nobody does. But over time, you'll figure it out.

What edi68815 is talking about is that I occasionally make a "Tickman Challenge" offering a respectful nod to the highest scorer on a given game. I announce the competition here on the community page when I do it. Huggie18 does something similar sometimes. The consortium known as the "GameFellas" also does this on a larger scale involving several games and greater rewards (more nods).

Do a site search for "Challenge" and "competition" and you'll find some of these.

There's nothing to stop you from starting your own challenge.

surely that could only correlate to an increase of new members, why should new members be expected to know very much? you can make your games into a challenge and just post the challenge invitation here, possibly with a reward in the form of nods. tickman is a leading proponent of that approach, and huggie's a fan of it.

=========

Well, that particular post was from a time before there were PM's and member message boards here at PG. David has done a lot of work revising and retooling this place. I think this is about the 3rd major revision we're in now, with many minor to moderate tweaks in addition. There weren't a lot of members back in those days, and very few were Grand Masters. About the only way we had to communicate was in game comments (which would only be seen by those playing a particular game) and the Forum. There was no tournament in those days, either.

Actually, we don't have "Grand Masters" anymore. That was an old measure of how many games one had played and the scores they got. In the early going, it was hard to get to be a Grand Master, because there weren't a lot of games at that time.

And even further back than that, there was a time (before I got here), when the only games were the ones David made: there was no game making engine for the players to use.

I see you're fairly new here (about a month). So welcome to PG, and I hope you enjoy it here. And I'll bet that if you stick around for several months, there will be considerable revision to the site. I've been here for about a year and a quarter, and it's amazing how much the site has changed in that time.

I think these revisions are something we all look forward to (and thank David for).

Good Luck and Good Games,
