2. gecian 10

It is one week left of the tourney so there is still time to improve your score.

I should add to the above post:

The competition will last for 2 weeks(until Oct 22nd). It will end at a time chosen by the GF official scorekeeper.

Also, we don't want to reset the highscores (unfair to those who have already played), and we have no way to temporarily wipe the slate clean (as in the tourney). Therfore, there are already leaders in this competition based on who has already played. Nobody is going to calculate who that is for awhile, though. This is one reason we chose games that didn't already have pages and pages of players: its easier for the scorekeeper.

There is a new GameFellas competition. Not as big a one as the recent China series, but still featuring games by all the Fellas.

In this competition, we are featuring older games that haven't gotten a lot of play. All are less than 150 plays, and some well below 100.

Nods will be awarded to the winner (2 nods), the second place (2 nods) and the third place (1 nod).

Find the competition games at our Faves page:

Blast from Past

http://www.purposegames.com/memberfavs/14780

The games include:

From Niklas:
Cities of the Roman Empire

From Equestenebrarum:
European Newspapers Part 1

From RonaldDerGrosse:
Summit Conference Day 2

From Dal:
Chinese Zodiac, Signs

And From Tickman:
The Misadventures of Compassman

It's an eclectic collection on many subjects, and we wish you all good luck.

And I should also mention: there may be a larger competition in the works. Stay tuned for an announcement on that very soon.

The special GameFellas competition for the game "The Biggest Cities of the People's Republic of China" by Equestenebrarum has been concluded.

It looks like congats are due to Tinus, Esar and Bix21, the three winners in this competition.
And kudos as well to BoboLo, Gecian and Arturo, who also clocked good times.

Three respectful nods to Tinus, and one each to Esar and Bix21. Nodless (but nonetheless respectful) honorary mentions go to BoboLo, Gecian and Arturo. And we award big, respectful thank yours to everyone who played.

For all you who are already into the GameFellas competition, the Fellas have decided on an award format for the Pentathlon of games included.

For those of you who haven't started, you may want to reconsider: the awards (given in terms of respectful nods) are substantial.

Keeping with the Olympic side theme, the awards are referred to simply as Gold, Silver and Bronze (virtual medals)for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively.

The GameFellas have amassed a total of 10 nods to be given out as follows:

Gold: 5 nods
Silver: 3 nods
Bronze: 2 nods

So even 3rd place comes out pretty well.

Good Luck and Good Games

A few of us (Niklas, RonaldDerGrosse, Equestenebrarum, Dal and I) have banded together to explore some ideas about cooperative game making. Collectively, we call ourselves “The GameFellas”.

Our idea is to work together to illuminate themes or subject areas that have not been well-covered in PurposeGames. In our first stab at the concept, the subject is China, which is woefully under-represented here.

So, over the next week or so, each of the five of us will be releasing games on this common theme. Some games will be very easy, some very difficult. And you will see many levels of difficulty in between. There will probably be 10-12 games in all. Five of these games will be “Pentathlon” games, part of a challenge competition. We will keep track of the scores on these games, and award virtual Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to the best scorers. There will be respectful nods given for these awards. We have not yet worked out the details of these awards, but will do so very soon.

The “Pentathlon” games will be marked as such in the game descriptions. There will of course be five such games, one from each “GameFella”, as well as other non-Pentathlon games by some of the Fellas.

The games are to be released over time, about one day apart:

The tentative schedule (subject to change) is as follows, going from easiest games to more difficult ones:

*The Grand Canal of China (I: Bodies of Water) by Tickman; August 16

The Grand Canal of China (II: Cities) by Tickman; August 17

*Topography of China by Niklas; August 18

China: Spelling of Cities Now and Then by Niklas; (August 19)

*A China Connection Quiz by RonaldDerGrosse (August 20)

*Chinese Dynasties Timeline by Dal ; (August 21)

Modern China Timeline by Dal ; (August 22)

And finally, the most challenging of all:

*The Biggest Cities of the People's Republic of China by Equestenebrarum (August 23).

Tentatively, the games marked with a * are the Pentathlon games; one from each author. The range of difficulty is great; from very simple to very challenging.

The last Pentathlon game is the “Biggest Cities” game by Eques. One week after that game is published, the awards will be made. (Aug 30).

After all the listed games are published, some of the GameFellas will release more games in the series. None of those will be Pentathlon games. But please do play them.

We would also invite others at that time to make their own games on this subject.

As noted above, some minor details of the schedule and the Pentathlon are not yet worked out: That information will be posted soon.

A historical note: the cooperative game concept has been discussed on and off at least since last March. Dal revived it couple of months ago, and it took awhile to settle on a topic. When we decided on China, it was still weeks before the Olympics, and nobody was thinking about the connection. Well, discussion and work on games dragged on, and here we are in Olympic time. And that’s what triggered the Pentathlon idea.

Everyone, please enjoy the series and the competition. Comments and corrections are welcome.

Good luck to all, and we’ll see who gets that gold.

A special note to Dal, Eques, RDG and Niklas: It’s been great working with you Fellas.

I hope the GameFellas will ride again!

Good Luck, and Good Games.

Eques:

Congratulations on this achievement.

Two hundred games is a lot.

A lot of games, a lot of time, a lot of thought, and a lot of work. Yours are among the best on this site. If you hadn't taken time out to become a daddy (proof that we're not just a bunch of nerds without real lives), you'd no doubt have many more games by now.

And, as Niklas says, good to see that you have a bit more time for this now.

PGers in general:

If you are new here, or otherwise (improbably) unfamiliar with his games, take the advice given by RonaldDerGrosse in the first posting on this thread.
