I have just a small size computer and must scroll most of the time to get the whole picture. So I am slowed and do not exactly get top scoring timewise.

When we are playing for fun time matters not as we are pastiming.

You see this a lot. It isn't really a problem. I often see the same user with multiple listings. I think it is because of visiting different areas of the site, and each recording your presence.

When you log out, they all disappear.

Hi Xmael,

Welcome to the site. When you first start making games your new games appear on the "recently created games" page, but as you make more games, get better at it and attract positive attention then eventually your games will start appearing on the main page where plenty of people will see them. In the meantime I recommend that you look around the site for inspiration and enjoy the process.

First of all, welcome to PurposeGames.

Huggie is right in that you can't put your games into a tourney by yourself. Only the site's owner (David) can do that. He's pretty selective though, and can afford to be with over 8500 games to choose from.

We don't expect you to know all this right off. Nobody does. But over time, you'll figure it out.

What edi68815 is talking about is that I occasionally make a "Tickman Challenge" offering a respectful nod to the highest scorer on a given game. I announce the competition here on the community page when I do it. Huggie18 does something similar sometimes. The consortium known as the "GameFellas" also does this on a larger scale involving several games and greater rewards (more nods).

Do a site search for "Challenge" and "competition" and you'll find some of these.

There's nothing to stop you from starting your own challenge.

surely that could only correlate to an increase of new members, why should new members be expected to know very much? you can make your games into a challenge and just post the challenge invitation here, possibly with a reward in the form of nods. tickman is a leading proponent of that approach, and huggie's a fan of it.

You can't choose to have your games put on the tournament. Also, there's been a big increase in new members lately who don't know anything. Very strange!!

I feel that it would be good to have games about regions of England to allow you to learn the geography in a more structured way and to allow more details to be added as compared to games on England in its entirety.

There are a few county games (thanks Forderella) but I think regions might provide a good intermediate level for those who don't want (or haven't got the time etc) to learn that much detail.

I have made a map of South East England that anyone who wants to do a game on this region can have. Just let me know!

That's a known bug. + signs not showing up correctly.

I'm tried to make math related games, but every time the + sign disappears. For example, I'll type in x^2 + 2x + 3, and after I've saved it it will become x^2 2x 3. Is there anyway I can fix this?

Yeah, the tag thing is still not where it should be, but David is always improving the site. It just keeps getting better, and glitches and problems like that get fixed eventually. Just remember, he's only one guy, doing this sort of as a hobby aside from his real life. He does good work, but has to prioritize.

Niklas has given you good advice. Great thing, that. He's made more games than you can shake a stick at, so he knows a lot. Pay attention to him if you pay attention to anyone.

Blank maps? Well, that's a problem. Sometimes you find nice, blank maps. But usually (for me, anyway) I have to go through and laboriously delete text from the map. That can take hours for a complicated map, if I want the erasures to be (relatively) invisible.

But see Wikipedia.org for a good source. And their sister project Wikimedia (links to that at the bottom of Wikipedia main page). Lots of good material there.

And you've done exactly the right thing here. If you have problems or questions, post them on the community page. (What old-timers here still call "The Forum").

Your question will be seen and someone will at least try to help you.

What I meant with the last sentence was that you shouldn't have any vital information in that area, not that there shouldn't be any background there.

You can see the most popular tags in the tags cloud to the left on the Games-page. How you do a search for a specific tag I don't know, anyone?

The maximum resolution for a background is 700 (width) x 550 (height). If your background is larger than that it is shrinked to that size without keeping the proportions. The easiest way to get around this is to shrink the image yourself before using it. Think about leaving room for the title and the clue box in the upper right corner.

I have just created my first game, "The twelve Jewish tribes", and did set a tag on it (ok, more than one). The tag was "bible". But when I do search after bible I do not see my game at all. Isn´t that what a tag is supposed to do? make you find the game when you search after the tag?

I do also have a question about the map for my game. The size of the map did change when I did upload. Can I prevent it in some way?

And is it possible to find those nice empty maps in any special place? It was hard for me to find any empty maps and I do not know if I will need to make them all by myself. There will be some under the same theme as my first map "bible" when I have found maps.

Hm...how about an animal based tournament? For that, I think that games including endangered animals would be perfect because it would raise awareness of something other than ourselves (humans). My other choice would be something about space.

As I understand it, the selection process goes something like this:

1) Some people of long standing,(e.g., Niklas) usually have their games go directly to page one. I am lucky enough to be in that group.

2) New authors generally do not have their games go to page 1. They go to the general game page.

3) New authors get "game cred" by having a sufficient number of games that are well-received (i.e., getting good enough ratings). I do not know the specifics of that.

4) David will sometimes "promote" a game from a new author to the main page if he sees it and likes it. He may even give that author status that will give him/her instant access. He may also become aware of an author's previous body of work and grant instant access. In one case I know of, a very good author had been absent for a time, including the transition to the main page / game page system. He was not originally included automatically, but when David became aware of the previous work, the status was immediately upgraded.

5) He may also "Demote" a game from an established author if he finds it to be substandard or offensive, or just not quite the right image for PG. One of my games (one dealing with the morphology of the spermatozoan) was deemed to be not quite the right image, and never made the main page. To date, only two people have played that game (including me).

All this aside, I think that Frenchhorn's problem is that he either got the name wrong as you suggest, or somehow has not published (or has deleted) the game.

Frenchorn did you mean Unique World Sites- Europe and Russia? Because those are the only games that seem to be on your control panel- not Europe and Asia. It also says that the 2nd version of that game was created before the 1st version- which seems a little odd- is that true?

The game does not show up on the front page, and nowhere else, either. I did a search, and found a couple of your games with similar names: "Europe and Russia", vs "Europe and Asia".

So it is either not public, or not published.

Check your profile, where you can find links to both your public and private games. It should show up on one of those. If it is public, but not published, you should be able to click on a link that will publish it.

If it is private, you will need to make it public, and a link to do that, too.

If neither is the case, you may need to contact David....

Not every new game is visible on the front page. It's only a selection of all new games. Just above the top new game is a link called 'games section'. Here you can find the complete list of all (new) games.

I don't know how this selection process works: Which game is visible and which one isn't. That's something you can ask David.
