frenchhorn

I'm an American student and I first discovered purpose games over a year ago when studying for the national geographic bee. Now I use it to study for quiz bowl, to learn, and of course for the tournaments (I tend to finish in the top ten hehe).

Hi and welcome to my group! What do you study? I've spent three summers in Door County, WI. Did you ever hear of it?

Yes, I have written about 25 books. My full name is Ron Tagliapietra, and you can find it on amazon. Most of my books are high school math textbooks, but not all. I have written The Seven Wonders of the World, The Southern Sixers, Waterfalls of the States, and Great Adventurers of the 20th Century among others.

I'm not surprised, I've turned into something of an addict in recent weeks! If I wasn't before.

Hi Frenchhorn!
Yes, New Zealanders are called kiwis, after the NZ native bird, the kiwi, which is only found in NZ - a shy, flightless and endangered bird. That is not say New Zealanders are shy, flightless and endangered!! Actually, probably because of the remote location of NZ, we kiwis fly more than almost any other nation, and we certainly are NOT shy! And I sure hope we are not endangered!
Incidentally, the little brown furry fruit that is commonly referred to overseas as "kiwi" got their name from New Zealand also. Here we call them kiwifruit, but originally they were known as chinese gooseberries. The change in name was the result of a very successful marketting campaign in the 1970s and 1980s, done by the NZ Kiwifruit Marketting Board. They are one of NZ's better-known exports, though they are also now widely grown in other countries, particularly Chile.
Best wishes from your Kiwi buddy,
Kathy
