Ukraine is 603,700 km2.
The European portion of France is 551,695 km2, but with overseas territories and departments is 674,843 km2.
So France is larger than Ukraine, but if you go with the "In Europe" part of the question, the answer should be Ukraine.
Also, Turkey and Kazakhstan, which have small portions of European territory are 783,562 and 2,724,900 km2 , respectively.
But really, the answer in either case is "Russia". The European portion is far larger than the European portion of any other country. And the total size is 17,075,400 km².
So Ukraine is the largest all European country, Russia both the largest overall and the largest European nation even excluding thenon-European portion.
I guess it depends on what question you are asking, but most askings would be either Ukraine or Russia. It could be France if you ask "What is the largest European country with the bulk of its territory in Europe, but still counting non-European territories?"
Not as simple as it might seem from a list of countries, since you might not know how they are counting things...
