USA - The five biggest cities

USA - The five biggest cities

created by paulfunI, 3 years ago in Geography

To be sure to find your way on the map (and memorize places), I always prefer a small amount of dots.
Please do comment on which of these cities you prefer.
The dot without the figures goes to the picture.

I have to say New York is better from my personal experience...but I happen to live much closer to Chicago, and as far as big cities in Michigan there isn't much beside awful Detroit. Chicago has alot of nice festivals, one popular one is taste of Chicago which is great for foodies....and there are a ton of great restaurants there too! lots of nice museums, parks, shopping and so forth. Also, I included in my game a few historical polish landmarks, because Chicago is known for having the oldest and most prominent settlement of Poles(not necessarily a sole reason to go, but interesting fact :)) I personally just like going to see bands in Chicago, or visiting the different restaurants and bars there. My favorite museum is the Shedd aquarium, and the art museum is nice too. I recommend, if anyone goes to Chicago(or any unknown place) is to make a plan and do some research before going there. That way you can get the best out of the city :) I also highly recommend for anyone in Chicago to stop at Kuma's corner. You have to wait a bit to get a seat, but they have some of the most creative burgers. There's a bonus for metalheads, but everyone eats there regardless of music taste because the food is great. To sum up I guess there are alot of "better" big city places to visit in the US, but maybe I just like it there... " and "Also, I agree with slaaty on staying for a short trip in New York, and a long one in Chicago :) "

OK, you want cities not mentioned?
San Francisco far and away is more interesting than LA.
It's also much larger than it shows statistically, for reasons of geography. Think of it as THE downtown of the entire bay area, then it's one of the 5 largest in the US.

New Orleans, for all its troubles, is still a place you should see.

Portland, Oregon is one of the most livable cities, while Charleston, SC & Chattanooga, Tenn are two small southern cities with character, and Burlington, Vt in New England.

Boston & DC are worth visiting for history's sake.

I chose to live in the Seattle area, and haven't regretted it, though there are several attributes of Portland, OR of which I am jealous.

Albany, NY is very nice, given it's proximity to several historic sites (American historic.... nothing compared to European historic, but it's still significant) Philadelphia has the New Jersey (USS New Jersey, that is) right across the Delaware river, so I like it... Baltimore is truly awesome! Washinton, DC? not on my recommend list, actually.... I've been there often enough to say that I don't like it, once out of the tourist side of it... most of the major cities in America have Hard Rock Cafe's, sooo.... I'd recommend them all for eats! ;) (major fan of Hard Rock Cafe, don'cha know?) I've also got to say, Philly is awesome for it's historic sites! :) New York (city) has the major disadvantage of too much traffic... but I've never been to Manhatten, only through the outskirts of NY..."

I've lived in two of those for quite long stretches of time (Philadlephia and Baltimore) and hugely enjoyed my time there. Baltimore has the advantage of the wonderful harbor and some sensational art museums (including the biggest single collection of Matisse anywhere in the world) and a very good symphony orchestra - and it's 30 mins from Washington on the train."

looks like I would have to check in to either Chicago, or Pheonix.... (pheonix for the scenery...) (chicago for the automotive interest...) but lets hear it for the non- cities- those vast spaces we call the country!

If I could only go to one for a short visit, it would have to be New York - If I was obliged to stay for a month, then probably Chicago, but if it had to be in the winter, still NY for the short stay, but probably LA for a longer one (if I had to limit it to these 5).
