I too do not understand why I originally used the variables u and v, however you may be pleased to discover that I replaced the variables u and v with the proper variables x and y.

Good idea for a game. This is exactly the kind of elementary thing that you shouldn't have to look up but rather know by heart.
I don't understand why you have introduced the implicit identities u=x and v=y, however. If the right hand side uses x and y there is no reason why the left hand side shouldn't.
