@Lilili

For clarification (see wikipedia ): "The Red Terror was claimed to be introduced in reply to White Terror. The stated purpose of this campaign was struggle with counter-revolutionaries considered to be enemies of the people. Many Russian communists openly proclaimed that Red Terror was needed for extermination of entire social groups or former ruling classes. Lenin planned the terror in advance." You are correct in that it is during the civil war. (I will make this more obvious in the game)

Assassinated usually refers to killing someone who is not already held captive; the term 'execution' would be more appropriate. The pogromist tsar was executed to deprive the monarchist Whites of a living symbol to rally around during the Civil War.
Also, I would have put the Russian Civil War rather than the red terror, seeing as it was part of the bigger conflict involving 14 invading armies supporting the Whites who were also doing their own mass terror and executions. Also, it is the third biggest war of the last century. For obvious political reasons in capitalist countries usually the red terror is focused on in order to demonize communism, without the context of them being under a starvation blockade and invaded by most every other imperialist country in the world, and taking necessary measures to defend the revolution that the majority supported.

Fair points, well made. That said, most specialists would date the end of Communist Party rule to when Gorbachev threw in the towel in December 1991. On the other point, 'separatist' republic carries connotations of revolt and independence - for example, Beijing regularly refers to the 'three evils' of terrorism, separatism and extremism. Perhaps 'separate' or even 'autonomous' (less satisfactory) republic might do the trick? But of course you're right - there are many different ways of looking at this!

According to my source (infoplease.com):

In 1992: ''Yeltsin ends supremacy of Communist Party, privatizes state-run enterprises, guarantees free press; businessmen, mobsters begin to take over economy, massive corruption sets in''

also in 2003: "Chechens vote in a referendum that approves a new regional constitution making Chechnya a separatist republic within Russia. Agreeing to the constitution means abandoning claims for complete independence, and the new powers accorded the republic are little more than cosmetic."

Wikipedia states that:

''The Communist Party of the Soviet Union was banned in Russia in 1991-1992.'' It my impression that ending the supremacy was gradual and ended in 1992.

@Bobolo I do know your an expert in this field, seeing as you wrote a book about Russia recently, but due to constraints on PG it is impossible to add long sentences on quizzes so sometimes I can only include a few words as hints. I would like to have said that in 2003" a new regional constitution making Chechnya a separatist republic within Russia."

I am not disagreeing with you, I just think there are different ways of looking at it.

I think a couple of clues are debatable. Did Yeltsin really end Communism in 1992? Wouldn't it be 1991, or even 1990 when he beats Nikolai Ryzhkov for the top job in the Russian Republic? Also, was Chechnya really a separatist state in 2003? I would have thought 1996-99 are the right dates for this.
