I love stuff like this, that explains the various terminologies used about a region. It's one thing to find the UK on a map- it's another thing entirely to really understand what is meant by "the British Isles", etc. Great visual!

Yes, it is still a bit confusing, with all those overlapping definitions. And the fact that people use some of them more or less interchangeably doesn't help much.

Thanks for the comments. They are very much appreciated.
I was looking for background images for making a game for "Capital or Not: British Isles," and I stumbled on to this image. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be a great background.
I was slightly surprised to find that nobody had used the background before, and even more surprised that only a handful of British Isles games of any kind have been made before. And none of them take anything like this approach.
So I decided to delay making the "Capital or Not" game, and to focus on this one.
It's a happy coincidence for me: serendipity in finding an image of this quality when I was looking for something else, and having it come just in time to be used for a *00 milestone game.
It's always easy when you can find a great pre-made image that needs little tweaking. That's what I love about Wikimedia/Wikipedia: so many great images that I couldn't even come close to making on my own. Makes me look like I know what I'm doing.
I'm still in a bit of shock at having found this great piece of "low hanging fruit".
Now, back to making that "Capital or Not" game...
