However, volleyball has been an olympic sport since 1964 in Tokyo. Beach volleyball was introduced in 1996, but your picture is from ordinary volleyball (more than two players in one team).

I had a difficult time coming up with the origins of sports. There is some misinformation regarding the beginnings of many sports. As an example baseball:

Technically association football may be considered to go back as far as Ancient China, it is similar to the game Cuju. I chose the date when the sport officially got its standard rules in 1863 instead. And for rugby I chose the date 1823 when William Webb Ellis broke the local rules by running forwards with the ball in a game. The ancient Greeks supposedly played a game that was similar to rugby. So many games are similar to football, the origins are not distinct and the lines can be blurred.
