"...stan" Countries Of The World
In Persian, the suffix "stan" means "place of". In Russian, the word "stan" means "settlement".
So we have seven countries in Central Asia that share the "stan".

Also. In Swedish "stan" is short for "staden" which means "the town". So we have plenty of city parts called f ex Nordstan (north part of the town) and old town in Stockholm is called "Gamla Stan" http://www.mostphotos.com/2217518/gamla-stan-tunnelbanan-kvallstid so we keep joking "gamlastaan"
