Is it because if you're not a vegetarian, you can have all those things, AND meat? The world is your oyster. Which you can then eat.

Technically, cheese isn't vegetarian. (Look up "rennet" on wikipedia -- poor baby cows!) However, there are rennet-free cheeses.
