OK, I thought it was a good question since their name starts with cent- which suggests it was 100. But I can add 'at first, in the beginning' or something like that in the question.

In the question about the Centurion, yes they commanded 100 legionaries but for a short time. After a while, it became only 80.

You are probably right, I found this in Wikipedia:
One of the few sources to allude to the use of the "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" gestures in the Roman arena comes from Satire III of Juvenal (3.34-37)[17] and seems to indicate that, contrary to modern usage, the thumbs down signified that the losing gladiator was to be spared and that the thumbs up meant he was to be killed.
I found the info for my game on the net as well but I think Wikipedia is to be trusted in this case.

I thought I saw somewhere that, contrary to conventional wisdom, the thumbs-down sign was actually an instruction to spare rather than kill the defeated gladiator.
