As self-designations, some of these are VERY odd. My wife, originally of Michigan, thought her state erred terribly when they stopped using Winter Water Wonderland on the license plates, and I'd have to agree.

I should point out that if you do a site search for "nicknames", you'll find several games on state nicknames. Nearly all use all the most recognized nicknames. One or two throw in a couple of secondary names. This is the only game to go "oddball" as much as possible.

There were a couple I had to find with Google Searches.
Some of the names used are long out of date, others are still familiar. Some fit stereotypes, others do not.
One state (Vermont) apparently has never had a second nickname. If anyone can find one, let me know...
