@ slaaty

I have taken your advice to move the "Twin Peaks" dot. At this point, I can't really put Cicely in though: it would change the game.

I think you could safely put Cicely, Alaska (Northern Exposure) somewhere NE of Anchorage. When I saw your Twin Peaks dot, I thought of Cicely, because it was filmed in Roslyn, WA - a bit east of your Twin Peaks dot. And much of Twin Peaks was filmed at Snoqualmie Lodge where your dot is, but the fictional place was supposed to be much more remote, in NE Washington, close to the Idaho border.

@ ashgabat :

I think that's Springfield....

And it's not sure where it is.

There are many towns by that name in the US -- it's one of the top names.

But it was never said where it was. I think when the movie came out, there was a "competition" where various towns of that name made their case to the producers of the movie to see which would get a premiere viewing. I don't remember which one won.

What about Springville (home of simpsons)?

About the towns chosen:

I found out rather quickly that this wasn't as simple as it seemed. Some places have moved (even several times). This is especially comic-book places, some of which have been in several states. I just picked one of the places, most often according to a more recent understanding.

Others don't say much about where they are, or just make vague references to location. But there are clues:

Nearby towns and cities are sometimes mentioned, At the scale of the map, the dot will be close enough.

Some are known to be based on real places, or a composite of several nearby places.

One fictional place was a copyright trap on a published map. It became a real place later on.

Some places are mentioned as replacing today's cities in a fictional future. These are easy to get.

Finally, some famous fictional towns are impossible to pin down closely enough for the game. In some cases, even the state is ambiguous.
