Slaaty, this is a nice idea for a game! Many people have heard of Alice Springs, Lillehammer and Monte Carlo. But some Chinese cities are rather unknown for a large majority of men.
***** as usual.

Well, as size goes up, it gets harder to make an item famous as per the percentage increase, because that is a square ratio, and it makes it very big, very quickly. It would be hard to be 50,000 times more famous than any town of, say, 1500 people, particularily when you remember that those 1500 people have 2-5 people who also know something about the town, so you are estimating 50,000 times more famous than 5-7 thousand. Anyway, where I live is internationally renowned, if you happen to be a bird watcher who studies migratory hawks.

This is one of a series of games featuring famous places on earth whose fame is NOT derived from large year-round human populations:
Famous Natural Sites
Famous Historical Sites
and the combined Famous but Lightly (or Non-)Populated.
I got quite a lot of help for this series of games from Purpose Gamers including Niklas, Lilili, ron tag, jezour, and others.
My idea is to offer this as a counterpoint to my earlier series "Populous, but Relatively Obscure", and its introductory set.
For this game in particular, I want to point out that some of these towns are not necessarily world famous, but RELATIVE TO THEIR POPULATION they are better known than one would expect. For instance, Dixville Notch, New Hampshire is little known outside of the US, and even within the US is known only to habitual presidential election followers like me - but for a town of fewer than 100 residents, that's still a lot of people. Wuhan, China with over 5 million inhabitants is clearly much more famous than Dixville Notch, but not 50,000 times more famous, so Wuhan ended up on my Populous, but relatively obscure series.
Tell me about a small village in a part of the world where few dots are present here, or anywhere, and I may make another game with a new set of such towns.
Thanks to Pietro Calogero for his World Lands Map described here.
