Bromley is now a part of Greater London and not of Kent, although it was of course during Crompton's heyday.

Now I see that I forgot one dot: Richmal Crompton's home was in Bromley, Kent. Kent is the missing dot.

I love all the Just William stories, but one of my particular favourites is the one (not sure what it's called) in which the Brown family visit the seaside and William manages to make some charity worker believe that his family are all alcoholics. Best line ever is when William's just told her how his father drinks and the woman is like "Oh, your poor mother!" "Mother drinks as well," said William, determined that the sympathy should not be diverted from himself. That's not word perfect but I nearly died laughing when I first read that.
