Great challenge - but I wish the image were larger. No doubt there's some purposegames.com rule about it, but I have poor eyesight, and a large computer screen, so I still wish the image were larger.

Virginia was until now the only US state left without a counties (or other subdivision) game here on Purpose Games. Virginia presented a special challenge with its jurisdictionally independent cities, which are not part of the counties which often surround them, though in many cases they hold the government offices for those counties.

Here's one explanation, and here's another.

This quiz has only the counties, if you want to test yourself on the Independent Cities, go here, or if you prefer to tackle them all at once, you can try that too. Watch out for Richmond and Franklin Counties, which are not adjacent to the independent cities of the same name. And yes Arlington, James City, and Charles City are all counties, not cities.
