Note: There is some disagreement over which cities should be included in the Decapolis, and even how many cities should be included (despite the name Decapolis).
For example, Damascus is not always included because it is far from the others. Some people think there were at least 18-19 cities in the group.
In any case, they were a group of semi-autonomous cities which carried Greek and Roman culture far afield.
