I guess it depends on what question you are asking, but most askings would be either Ukraine or Russia. It could be France if you ask "What is the largest European country with the bulk of its territory in Europe, but still counting non-European territories?"

Not as simple as it might seem from a list of countries, since you might not know how they are counting things...
