Just to nitpick-
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is the herb/spice that gives curry the characteristic color. Curry can be a blend of several herbs&spices, of which curcumin (compound) from turmeric is usually the most prominent .
Also, apparently there is a certain gene in individuals that makes cilantro taste "soapy".

Perhaps bay leaf would be better than laurel when referring to the spice (though it is from a laurel).
