Just a note on what it means:
The wider (golden) band is the path of the attack, the black is that of the retreat.
Widths of the bands correspond to the size of the army. Note where units split off and rejoin the main body. Also notice how the width decreases at various battles and river crossings.
The lower graph shows temperature in degrees Réaumur, an obsolete temperature scale.
